CAPA offers individual and family counseling for children and adults who have experienced child abuse, neglect, or family trauma.

Counseling

Sometimes the hardships we go through can be challenging to overcome alone. CAPA is here to help all adults and children who have experienced child abuse, neglect, or family trauma, regardless of income or ability to pay. Our caring, professional Therapists and Clinical Program staff work to provide therapeutic support to children and adults who have experienced abuse, neglect, or other family trauma along their path of healing.

Our compassionate and professional Therapists are dedicated to helping improve:

Stress management skills
Emotional well-being
Depression and anxiety
Personal self-esteem
Family relationships
Parenting skills
Safety and coping skills
Conflict resolution skills
Communication skills

For children, play is a natural medium of expression and can be a process that helps them organize and understand the world around them. Play Therapy is supported by decades of research. All CAPA Therapists are Registered Play Therapists or participating in training to earn that designation. Download our printable Play Therapy brochure to learn more about how Therapists use the power of play to help children heal and feel safe and supported.

CAPA Counseling Services are offered in-person at our locations in Independence and Kansas City, MO. Virtual counseling is also available. CAPA currently partners with schools in the Independence, Fort Osage, and Raytown School Districts to provide therapy services during the school day for children with barriers to scheduling and transportation.
