This year’s Play Like a Kid! Field Day FUNdraiser was theA collage of photos from the "Play Like a Kid! 2024" event shows adults engaging in various outdoor activities, including a three-legged race, group exercises, and team photos. The weather was perfect, the company was excellent, and it’s safe to say we all had a good time! It’s one of our favorite days of the year, and we’re already excitedly discussing ways to make next year even better.

We incorporated new games, “Splash Basket” and “Shoe Shotput,” and enjoyed lunch from Jason’s Deli. We had excellent swag from generous sponsors, including Comprehensive Mental Health, LEAD Bank, and 4Imprint.

Thanks again, to all our amazing sponsors and teams, and to the staff, board, and community volunteers who helped make Play Like a Kid 2024 the best one yet! Special thanks go to the Kansas City area Target employees and Kansas City Goats Arena Football players who joined us as volunteers.

CAPACares helps children, adults, and families feel safe, supported, and strong. We provide counseling, home visiting support, and community education programs. Our goal is to help people heal, grow, and build healthy relationships.

We offer three main types of services:
  • Counseling for people of all ages.
  • Home visiting through Healthy Families Jackson County™, which supports parents and caregivers
  • Community education, including parenting classes, social-emotional learning, and mandated reporter training
If you’re not sure which service is right for you, we can help you figure that out.

If you are worried about a child’s safety, it’s important to speak up. Making a report can help connect a child and their family to support and resources they may urgently need. You do not need proof to make a report—just a concern.

Reports can be made anonymously, and the goal is always to protect children and help families.

You can call the child abuse hotline for your state or the national hotline:

  • National Child Abuse Hotline: 1-800-422-4453
If you’re unsure whether to report, remember calling can be the first step toward help, healing, and safety for a child.

Healthy Families Jackson County™ is a home visiting program that supports parents and caregivers with young children up to age three. Family Support Specialists offer guidance, encouragement, and tools to help families thrive.

We offer parenting skills classes, prevention education, social-emotional learning programs, and mandated reporter trainings.
