What does CAPACares do?
CAPACares helps children, adults, and families feel safe, supported, and strong. We provide counseling, home visiting support, and community education programs. Our goal is to help people heal, grow, and build healthy relationships.
What services do you offer?
We offer three main types of services:
- Counseling for children, adults, and families
- Home visiting through Healthy Families Jackson County™, which supports parents and caregivers
- Community education, including parenting classes, social-emotional learning, and mandated reporter training
If you’re not sure which service is right for you, we can help you figure that out.
Who can receive services at CAPACares?
We serve people of all ages—from young children to adults. Families, caregivers, and individuals are all welcome. If you can walk and talk, you can receive services here.
How do I report suspected child abuse or neglect?
If you are worried about a child’s safety, it’s important to speak up. Making a report can help connect a child and their family to support and resources they may urgently need. You do not need proof to make a report—just a concern. Reports can be made anonymously, and the goal is always to protect children and help families.
You can call the child abuse hotline for your state or the national hotline:
- Missouri: 1-800-392-3738 (Outside Missouri: 573-751-3448)
- Kansas: 1-800-922-5330 (Outside Kansas: 785-296-0044)
- National Child Abuse Hotline: 1-800-422-4453
If you’re unsure whether to report, remember calling can be the first step toward help, healing, and safety for a child.
How do I sign up for counseling?
To schedule a counseling appointment or refer someone, please complete our online referral form and our intake therapist will reach out to you. If you have questions, you can email our Intake Specialist or call (816) 252-8388. Si prefiere servicios de consejería en español, contáctenos por correo electrónico o llámenos al (816) 252-8388 x 504.
How much does therapy cost?
CAPACares does not bill clients or insurance. An hour of therapy usually costs about $140, and we work hard to raise funds so cost is not a barrier to care. Families are welcome to make a donation if they choose, but it is never required. Your therapist can share more information if you’re interested.
Is there a waitlist for therapy?
Wait times can change based on many factors. After you submit a referral, our intake therapist will contact you with next steps. If you haven’t heard back within 15 business days, please call us at (816) 252-8388 or email us for an update. Once your intake is complete, you’ll be told what to expect and when to check back in.
